Chapter 27 “Thanks for the dinner.” Helen said, as we came to the parking lot(停車場). Andy will give us a lift(搭車) this time, since(因為) I insisted that. He drove at the front, and we were at the back. His mom packed(包裹) the rest of garlic bread and demanded(要求) us to split(分開) it half and take them home. Andy emphasized(強調)that eagerly(熱情地)too. I didn’t know what he was up to (企圖做什麼). He especially(特別地) told us that we must eat them as soon as we got home, as if (好像)it was some kind of medicine(藥物)that could cure(治療) diseases(疾病). I guess there’s no harm(危害); I would like to see what this come lead(引導) to.

He talked to us about some nonsense(廢話), things that didn’t matter, while driving absently(心不在焉地), only one hand on the steering wheel(方向盤).

All of a sudden(突然), the car seemed to lose control(失去控制) and spun(旋轉) on its wheels(輪子). We screamed(尖叫) at the top of our lungs(肺), but it crashed against the telegraph pole(電線杆) on the side walk(人行道). All happened so quick, and our bodies swung(搖擺) forward. Helen crushed her forehead(額頭) on the back of Andy’s seat. Fortunately(幸運地), the seat was wrapped(纏繞) by some layers(層) of cloths(布), which made it softer.

I myself, crashed to the seat beside Andy, which didn’t have all the layers around it. We were equally(同等地) hurt, some purple bruises(撞傷).

Helen ran after me, still rubbing(揉) her forehead.

  “Jessy, what’s with you today?”

“Leave me alone, Ok?” I sort of got back to her.

“I know it was careless(不小心的) of Andy but you can’t blame(怪罪) him!” We were arguing(爭論) in the middle of the road. Cars passed us like arrows, I felt such a fool.

  “Why can’t I? ”

“He didn’t even have a license(駕照)!” And I realized we weren’t talking about the same thing.

  “Never mind, you’ll never understand.”

“Come on, let’s get back, It’s freezing(冰凍的) cold out side.” She had a point(道理), so I decided not to be babyish(幼稚的) and get back in.

  Andy looked pale(蒼白的), really pale.

  Something was freezing inside me.
