Chapter 7 Todd was found absent for school today when we checked the register. Helen wasn’t suspicious, only a little worried. I comforted her and told her it was just flu. I lied for I don’t see any better way. Katlin was wearing the earrings she bought the other day, with great self-confidence, that is. I demanded her where Todd was. She told me his is back home, resting. I warned her about the plan. She didn’t say a word. I walked away, but I thought she said something at my back. It was too hash, I ignored it. I think it has something to do with dance partners. Who cares! Only if I did care what she said… I arranged to meet Andy at the café this afternoon. I needed to ask for someone’s advice, except Helen, of course. I’m glad he didn’t pass me any more ridiculous notes these days or I wouldn’t have talked to him. Obviously, Andy was the best person to talk to. It’s weird, I felt a lot better after the conversation with Andy. We didn’t say anything out of topic except the situation. So the conversation went like this. “Andy. I’m worried. Terribly worried. Katlin is planning on something bad, something really nasty.” “Well, what could it possibly be? All she thinks about are guys. I don’t see any risks.” “Oh my-” I rolled my eyes, “that’s exactly what I’m talking about. Let me put this straight. She is after Todd.” “Todd as in Todd Collins?” His eyes were wide open. I nodded. “What should I do?” I almost cried. He burst out laughing. “Let the barking dog sleep! What’s to be worried about?” All of a sudden he was serious “You aren’t saying you have a crush on Todd, are you?” Nooo!!! No for a million times! “How can you be such a bird brain? Of course I don’t! Yeeeaush! But Helen does.” I made a disgusted face. “Oh.” He narrowed his eyes. “I suppose Todd is also after Katlin then.” He sounded right as rain. “I don’t know. We’ll see.” A long pause. Plain silence. “Please tell me you are not going to the disco.” He asked as if he was concerned of something. “Why? I am.” I don’t see the point. He jumped up, almost knocking the glass over. “Don’t!” He warned me with a sort of fear in his eyes. “Just don’t. It’s no good. You don’t know how complicated things are at Club Nova. Please listen to me for once.” I looked at him, raising my head some angle. “Why not? I don’t have a partner yet. I was just going to ask you if you didn’t…” His eyes fell upon mine. “Fine, I’ll go with you.” He said in a weak voice.
