It is very difficult, if not impossible, to hold on to many things in life, such as love and true friendship. Yet because they are valuable and beautiful, it is better to have and lose them than not to experience them at all. They not only provide good memories, but help make us mature and learn to take life more seriously.
When I was in high school, I met a young teacher of Chinese who had just graduated from college. He was very humorous and learned. I liked Chinese very much then and was fond of writing essays. He gave me a lot of encouragement and often helped me polish my writings. After a while, we became good friends. One day, about two years later, he told me he was going away. He didn”t show up at school the next day and I haven”t seen him since.
Although even to this day I still don”t know where and why he had gone away, I always cherish the fond memories of the wonderful times we spent together. It is truly a gratifying feeling to share your joys and troubles with somebody you like. The experience set me thinking about life and in so doing I seemed to grow up. Once is better than never. No matter what happens to a person, friendship enriches our life experiences, which, undoubtedly, become our greatest wealth.
