Thankyouverymuch,ladiesandgentlemen.WelcometotheWhiteHouseandtothisdaytowhichHillaryandthevicepresidentandIlookforwardsomucheveryyear.
Thisisalwaysanimportantdayforourcountry,forthereasothatthevicepresidentsaid.Itisanunusualand,Ithink,unusuallyimportantdaytoday.ImaynotbequiteaseasywithmywordstodayasIhavebeeninyearspast,andIwasupratherlatelastnightthinkingaboutandprayingaboutwhatIoughttosaytoday.Andratherunusualforme,Iactuallytriedtowriteitdown.Soifyouwillforgiveme,IwilldomybesttosaywhatitisIwanttosaytoyou-andImayhavetotakemyglaesouttoreadmyownwriting.
First,Iwanttosaytoallofyouthat,asyoumightimagine,Ihavebeenonquiteajourneytheselastfewweekstogettotheendofthis,totherockbottomtruthofwhereIamandwhereweallare.
IagreewiththosewhohavesaidthatinmyfirststatementafterItestifiedIwasnotcontriteenough.Idon”tthinkthereisafancywaytosaythatIhavesied.
ItisimportanttomethateverybodywhohasbeenhurtknowthatthesorrowIfeelisgenuine:firstandmostimportant,myfamily;alsomyfriends,mystaff,myCabinet,MonicaLewikyandherfamily,andtheAmericanpeople.Ihaveaskedallfortheirforgivene.
ButIbelievethattobeforgiven,morethansorrowisrequired-atleasttwomorethings.First,genuinerepentance-adeterminationtochangeandtorepairbreachesofmyownmaking.Ihaverepented.Second,whatmybiblecallsa””brokenirit””;anunderstandingthatImusthaveGod”shelptobethepersonthatIwanttobe;awillingnetogivetheveryforgiveneIseek;arenunciationoftheprideandtheangerwhichcloudjudgment,leadpeopletoexcuseandcompareandtoblameandcomplain.版權所有
Now,whatdoesallthismeanformeandforus First,Iwillitructmylawyerstomountavigorousdefee,usingallavailablearopriatearguments.ButlegallanguagemustnotocurethefactthatIhavedonewrong.Second,Iwillcontinueonthepathofrepentance,seekingpastoralsuortandthatofothercaringpeoplesothattheycanholdmeaccountableformyowncommitment.
